Branding Your Printed Business Collateral

If you’re a business owner, you probably spent a great deal of time and money coming up with your company’s message, logo, colors and fonts in order to communicate your brand to your target audience. Most likely you or a web designer created a website to promote your product or service too.

Having an online presence is practically mandatory in this day and age. People rarely use the Yellow Pages anymore. They use their computers, tablets and smart phones to search Google for information.

Nevertheless, it’s still important to have promotional material that you can hand out to someone you meet in person. It could be as simple as a business card, or a full-color product brochure. What these two items and other printed marketing collateral should have in common is your company logo, colors and fonts. Promotional materials should be branded to allow you to maintain a consistent image. That’s one way that your prospects and customers will be able to distinguish you from your competitors. You still have to deliver an outstanding product or service too!

It doesn’t make sense to include your logo on your website or store front, and then mail a plain flyer without it. Repetition is one of the keys to successful marketing. People have to see you, your business, your logo, your message over and over again for it to stick in their minds. After all, you want to be top of mind when someone needs your particular product or service. One of the best ways to do that is with branding.

Another reason why it’s important to brand your collateral, such as company letterhead, rack cards, banners, etc. is because today’s consumer is skeptical and cautious when it comes to making a buying decision. They do a lot of research into a product or service, and dislike sales pressure. People are also extremely busy and confused by the number of choices available to them. You need to stay in front of them via direct mail, phone, social media and email. And the materials you use must be branded with your logo and tagline so your prospect becomes familiar with you.

Remember the old axiom -- people do business with people they like and trust. Your collateral helps them to become familiar with you. If they recognize your logo, and you effectively communicate how you provide a solution to their needs, they will be more likely to do business with you.
